Generations Equality - Celebrating Women in Business

Happy International Women’s Week! On Monday the International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over 100 years and in 2021 the 110th International Women’s Day brings up new challenges women are facing every day. Behind the International Women’s Day, it stands for recognizing the achievements of women. Not to mention, all the progress that has been made regarding gender equality and all that still needs to be done, as a reminder. This consists of eliminating discrimination and accomplishing equal pay for equal work.

But in this particular year 2021 there is a lot to discuss. The effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic turned our world upside down this past year and will have significant impact in future months. Unfortunately, this has mainly affected women and their progress in terms of economic and workplace empowerment. An example presents the closing of the daycare centers, kindergartens and schools which made working almost impossible for both parents. Needless to say, one of them needs to stay at home and take care of the children, which disproportionately mostly affect the women. This explains – among other reasons – the increasing female employment dropout, even faster than average despite the fact that women and men work in different sectors.

Women are more vulnerable to COVID-19 economic effects due to existing gender inequalities.

The reason why we should celebrate and discuss the International Women’s Day is because an equal future in a COVID-19 world needs to be built. It is important to motivate, inspire and support each other. Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and this means also half of its potential. Sadly, women continue to be underrepresented at all levels and this needs to change. The goal is to empower women and girls while achieving gender equality.

Especially in the professional environment, the differences between men and women are sometimes more or less noticeable. But in recent years in particular, women have successfully distinguished themselves in male-dominated professions, such as tech or finance. And at the BSS company this development has been and will be taken very seriously. Long-term projects in terms of reinforcement and support in these fields are planned.

So, let’s celebrate all these amazing women out there.
